This lighthouse is closed to the public and maintained as a bird sanctuary by the MA Audubon society.  It’s best seen from a boat as you pass into Rockport harbor. I took this shot on Labor Day weekend and the waves were breaking high due to the approach of a hurricane coming up the coast.

My numbers were 75mm with a relatively slow shutter speed of 1/250th of a sec. my ISO was 100 and fstop was 9.0.

Considering I shot this at 11:45AM the light was pretty harsh. I took this into NIK’s HDR EFX and tone mapped it. Tone Mapping is when you have HDR software work on a single image. Normally to do HDR, you want 3 to 9 images for the software to sample.

I simply liked the painterly quality of the image, I would love to know what you think. Tone map or not?  Below is the straight shot from the camera.

I like the straight shot better. Maybe because it suggests a fresh, cool breeze more than the other one. But they both have their merits.

Thanks David. I love playing with my photos to see what other feelings they can bring out. Sometimes I realize that they just were not going to get any better than straight from the camera and some of them look much better when they have been played with.
